Exploring NACAC

Education doesn’t end upon graduation. It is imperative to pursue further knowledge and expertise in one’s field, in order to better programs and services. Mrs. Trisha Hasbrouck and Ms. Christine Holladay spent three days in Salt Lake City, UT at the annual National Association for College Admissions Counselors. At the conference, they learned about national trends in education, college admissions and guiding students towards success.

Joined by 6,000 peers and colleagues, Mrs. Hasbrouck and Ms. Holladay were able to share and build upon ideas and strategies for improvement in the field of college advising and student support. Topics included the art of polished applications, essay writing, resumè building, diversity access and outreach, committee-based evaluations, parental involvement, full-school inclusion in the college search journey and more. Sessions and workshops provided decades worth of knowledge and professional camaraderie and afforded each attendee with substantial insight. Additionally, both were able to engage with college admissions professionals from around the globe and advocate for St. Joe students, while collecting valuable insider information to the admissions and scholarship processes at specific universities.

As educators, it is critical to assess and evaluate what we do and how we do it, and NACAC was the perfect opportunity for Mrs. Hasbrouck and Ms. Holladay to learn from others and continue towards their goal of positively impacting student achievement.
