SJA Summer Studios
By Julia Garlich ’17, Intern
School is out and summer is here at the Academy! In addition to our athletic camps, St. Joe created “SJA Summer Studios.” In the beginning of June, SJA Summer Studios provided a space for artists (incoming 7th-9th graders) to let their creativity shine through a variety of art disciplines. The two studios included printmaking and design.
In the Printmaking Studio, the girls explored an expansive range of printing techniques and created projects such as stamped stationery and gift papers, a screen-printed tote, block prints and more. In the Design Studio, girls were able to think like a designer as they navigated an array of design careers such as: graphic design, interior design, jewelry design, and toy design. They were able to design and create 3-D printed jewelry, hand-sewn plushies and interior design mood boards.
The studios provided the girls with the opportunity to expand their artistic skillset, build friendships with other girls their age and take home a collection of unique projects. Many thanks to our Visual Arts Teacher, Mrs. Katie Schaefer, for organizing these sessions!
