SJA students had the opportunity to participate in two mission trips over Spring Break. More than 60 students traveled to Fiji and to New Orleans to serve the “Dear Neighbor.”
The Angels who went to New Orleans worked with Habitat for Humanity, to assist in building houses in an area that was severely hit by Hurricane Katrina. Their service projects included painting, installing flooring, cutting trim and working on roofs. In addition to their service work, the students and chaperones visited historical sites in New Orleans, including St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter and Loyola University.
The students and chaperones who traveled to Fiji had the opportunity to participate in several projects including assisting farmers on a community greenhouse project, building a home for a local family, planting trees, re-stabilizing sand dunes and constructing a piggery. In addition to their service work, the Angels toured the islands and experienced Fijian culture firsthand!
