Martin Luther King, Jr. Model of Justice Award

Every year, the St. Charles Lwanga Center sponsors the Martin Luther King, Jr. Model of Justice Award. This award is presented to students in each Archdiocesan high school who have demonstrated through their attitude and their work, a commitment to serving humanity in the broader community. These students make social justice a central part of their lives and have committed themselves “to the noble struggle for equal rights.” They are committed to working for greater justice and reconciliation. In addition, these students live out the Catholic social teaching principle of solidarity and step out of their comfort zone to be in relationship with people who are living in the midst of an injustice.

The senior who is the recipient of this award for St. Joseph’s Academy this year is Claire Shackleford She has been invited to attend the annual Mass in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Cathedral Basilica this Sunday followed by the awards presentation and reception. Archbishop Carlson will be presiding at Mass and presenting the awards to each student.
