Academic Scholarships

Presidential Scholarship

St. Joseph’s Academy proudly offers its Presidential Scholarship to applicants who are among the most academically successful candidates for entrance to the freshman class. Based on a standardized test score in the 99th percentile, plus an outstanding academic record, students chosen for this award receive $4,000 renewable each year. Recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.7.

This award does not preclude any application for need-based financial aid; families remain eligible for tuition assistance. For more information contact Director of Admissions, Mr. Michael Wade.

Jean-Pierre Medaille, SJ, Merit Scholarships

Each year, St. Joseph’s Academy awards fifteen merit-based, partial, renewable scholarships for 8th grade applicants who demonstrate exceptional academic excellence, diligence, aptitude for achievement, and leadership potential. For a student to be considered for the Jean-Pierre Medaille scholarship, she must have standardized test scores of 97% or above and express interest by checking the box on the essay questionnaire portion of the application. With the limited number of merit scholarships available, the selection process is very competitive.

Lay Family Foundation Tuition Assistance Fund

Need based scholarship
This fund provides tuition assistance to an incoming freshman whose elementary school grade point average (or equivalent) falls between a 2.0 and a 3.0. The applicant must be committed to academic improvement, and her personal goals must include a college education. The family must apply for financial aid through the schools FACTS Grant and Aid link and be approved for financial assistance.

While the family needs to pay a maximum of $1,000 per semester, this tuition assistance grant, coupled with other grants, provides the full balance of the student’s tuition each semester.

This award is renewable each year based on the following:
  • A written request from the family for renewal;
  • Academic progress and satisfactory conduct, as confirmed in writing by two of the student’s teachers and the student’s academic counselor;
  • Continued family financial need as verified by FACTS Grant and Aid; and
  • An expressed desire for a college education as evidenced by letters signed by the student and each parent or guardian.
Incentive award
To assist with the cost of books, classroom fees, and other miscellaneous expenses, the Lay Family Foundation will pay each Lay Tuition Assistance Award recipient the sum of $300 for each semester that the recipient has a grade point average of 3.2 or higher, or beginning in the second semester, an increase in her grade point average over the prior semester of point three (.30) or more. This incentive payment is made directly to the student.
