Edward Jones Career Exploration Day

By Dr. Rose Davidson, STEM Coordinator
On November 5, students Mallory Kimes ’20, April Harris ’20 and Clare Neal ’19 participated in the Edward Jones Career Exploration Day.
The event's primary goal was to expose female students to roles that are traditionally male-dominated such as research, wealth management, the stock market, trading, and data analytics.
Our students and their chaperone, Ms. Taylor Shadden, were able to participate in a number of sessions at Edward Jones:
  • “A Day in the Life of an Edward Jones Home Office Associate” included a visit to the trading floor to see stock and bond trading firsthand.
  • A visit to the Research Department where the students learned how a company is valued in the stock market and how that stock could fit in an individual's investment portfolio.
  • Lunch included a panel of speakers from all around the firm about different career opportunities in the investment industry.
  • Students toured the Media Center and saw how Edward Jones communicates their advice and guidance.
  • During a visit to a portfolio manager, students got a closer look at building an investment portfolio.
  • While working with the Finance Team, students put their analytical skills to use in the business areas of accounting, analytics, and data science.
  • Students also spent time with the University Recruiting Team and heard about internships available for college students, what mentoring is and how mentoring can be helpful.
