St. Joseph's Academy and Cor Jesu Academy Pair Up For Funderwear Challenge

ST. LOUIS, MO. - On Thursday, January 11, 2018, St. Joseph's Academy is hosting the 14th Annual "Funderwear Challenge" with Cor Jesu Academy. The SJA and CJA school communities are collecting thousands of pairs of socks and underwear for St. Patrick Center. The collection and challenge conclude at the SJA Angels vs. CJA Chargers Varsity Basketball Game at 6:00 p.m.

The Funderwear Challenge began 14 years ago as a way for the two schools to benefit an important cause. "Funderwear is the perfect way for us to work together to help the homeless of St. Louis through St. Patrick Center" says Diane Everitt, SJA Theology teacher and Spirit Club Moderator. The event combines friendly competition and lives out St. Joseph's Academy's motto, "Not I, But We.

The challenge is a favorite among the student body. St. Joseph's Academy senior and Spirit Club officer Isabella Smith believes Funderwear is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. She says, "Students look forward to Funderwear each year because it is an opportunity to add a unique philanthropic element to our game. We are able to come together with another school to make a profound impact in our community."

Last year, SJA and CJA raised over 12,000 pairs of socks and underwear for St. Patrick Center. For the Angels, the goal is to win the game and surpass the amount collected in years past. As both teams compete for victory, Varsity Basketball Coach Julie Matheny states that the "real winners are the families and those in need who benefit from the generosity of these two school communities."
