Cup of Joe Profits Benefit Non-Profits

FRONTENAC, MO. –St. Joseph’s Academy continues to pour out entrepreneurial success and "serve the Dear Neighbor." On Thursday, May 18, 2017, the managers of the student-run coffee shop, “Cup of Joe,” are presenting checks to the Respect Life Apostolate, Saint Martha’s Hall and St. Joseph’s Academy Scholarship Fund as a result of the shop’s financial success during the 2016-2017 school year.

The Cup of Joe student managers have the opportunity to choose which non-profits the store profits benefit. The Cup of Joe faculty moderator, Megan Hackmann, states that the three non-profits chosen were selected because “We’ve always planned the profits to support causes that the St. Joseph’s Academy community believes in. It is part of the Entrepreneurship Program curriculum that the profits will benefit organizations that mirror the core values of the Academy. The profits enabled the students to select three organizations to support, each receiving $1,000. For example, Saint Martha's Hall was chosen by the student managers. One of the girls said it was a place that she had a lot of respect for. When we looked at what they do we knew that we wanted to donate to them as well.”

Cup of Joe is a student-run coffee shop that activated the Academy’s Entrepreneurial Program and provides girls the knowledge to run a business through innovative leadership. The shop aligns with the Future Business Leaders of America club to further propel their business education and hands-on experiences. The students involved handle the financial planning, ordering, marketing and the many other aspects of running a business.
