Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative Meeting
Members of Beta Chi Pi (Science Honor Society), Earth Angels and the Global Education Scholars collaborated for a virtual event with Jennifer Wendt, Campaign Manager for the Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative. The program, sponsored by National Geographic Society, National Geographic Education, Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative, UN Environment Programme North America, Marine Debris Tracker and the University of Georgia, uses the open-source “Marine Debris Tracker” mobile app to collect data about the waste stream from inland to the ocean.
Jennifer Wendt presented findings from when our students tagged and picked up trash along the Mississippi River. The Angels had the opportunity to ask questions to learn about their impact and how they can be the force for positive changes in our community.
St. Joseph’s Academy is a college preparatory high school sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.
