Meet Niya Tandy ’16!
In honor of Black History Month, St. Joseph’s Academy is celebrating our alumnae of color. Meet Niya Tandy ’16! She attended Missouri State University, where she received her BA in Sociology with a minor in Spanish. She is currently a first-year student at Howard University School of Law!
Niya graduated from SJA in May 2016. From there she moved on to Missouri State University where she received her BA in Sociology with a minor in Spanish.
Studying the various disparities embedded into our nation's institutions and the negative impact they have on marginalized groups, led her to pursue a law degree at Howard University School of Law, where she is a first-year law student.
“I’m focused on discovering where my passions lie and engaging my interests through volunteer work and becoming involved in student organizations. I recently joined the Education Law Society and the Howard Public Interest Law Society (HPILS) and am currently volunteering for the HPILS annual auction to raise scholarship funds for students doing unpaid public interest work over the summer. I also plan to volunteer for a Christian Legal Aid organization in DC where I will assist attorneys during clinic consultations by interacting with clients and taking notes on the legal issue.”
