International Holocaust Remembrance Day
On January 27, the Academy observed “International Holocaust Remembrance Day.” To honor this day, designated by the United Nations General Assembly, students in “Bearing Witness: Holocaust Literature of Extraordinary Lives” are sharing memorials of those who were murdered during the Holocaust.
Throughout this ongoing semester project, students were assigned a victim and visited “Yad Vashem's Pages of Testimony” to begin researching and recreating the life of their person. Following their research, each student created a memorial to remember the life of their assigned person. Mrs. Kelly Berry (English Department) shares, “The project is a powerful way to allow each student to really connect with one individual who was murdered during the Holocaust and preserve their memory."
