SJA Celebrates Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. SJA faculty and staff are sharing the ways that they will celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth:
  • Diversity Club will host a prayer service and vigil 
  • Students in “Freshman Experience” will conduct speeches about important figures in Black history 
  • Diversity Club, National English Honor Society and Beta Chi Pi will host the “Phenomenal Woman Poetry Challenge”
  • Members of the SJA Book Club will read a book with an African American author/character/subject
  • Digital Display Boards will feature the “Most Searched” Black icons in entertainment, sports, political history and beyond
  • Black Heritage Vision Walls will pay homage to Black history 
  • The February Book Challenge is to read a book with an African American author/character/subject
  • Inspiring quotes from African American leaders will be displayed in classrooms
