Youth and Government 2020 Convention

St. Joseph’s Academy students participated in the first-ever “Missouri Youth and Government” (YAG) virtual conference. Since 1949, YAG has provided students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills and experience democracy.

Several highlights from the state convention included:
  • Lilly S. competed in the final round of the competition trials.
  • Olivia B. and Caroline M. qualified for the semi-final round of the competition trials.
  • Lily B., Megan W., Grace B., and Addie E. had their bills signed into law.
  • Addie E. won “Outstanding Statesperson” for her debate in the House of Representatives Chambers.
  • Megan P. and Sophie M. served as trial judges.
  • Sara F. and Grace B. served as committee chairs.
SJA is proud to announce that Grace B. ran for and will serve as next year’s YAG Speaker of the House! A special shout-out to Addie E. for her impressive campaign for Missouri Youth Governor.

Congratulations to the students for their successes at this important convention. A special thank you to Mrs. Ally Landherr and Mr. Brandon Westlake for all their hard work in moderating and planning SJA Youth and Government.
