Diversity Club Prayer Vigil

On June 10, members of SJA’s Diversity Club held a prayer vigil, which included a reading from Colossians, a powerful prayer by Reverend Yolanda Pierce, personal reflections, a reading of names of those who have lost their lives as a result of racial injustices, an 8 minute and 46 second time of silence and reflection to remember George Floyd’s death and other victims, and resources about how students can make a “profound impact in the world.”

Over 100 students, faculty, staff and family members attended this student-led event on the SJA athletic fields. The Diversity Club’s goal was to provide an opportunity to grow closer to one another and help our sisters and brothers who are suffering from racism, injustice and police brutality. The club’s officers opened the prayer vigil by saying, “We hope that tonight you are inspired, inspired to help work to end the racism that plagues our country. The racism that is easily ignored by some, but inescapable for others. Inspired to have the difficult, but necessary conversations to heal the country. Inspired to listen, learn, and grow.”
