Missouri Youth and Government

Students attended the Youth and Government (YAG) Conference in Jefferson City. Since 1949, Missouri Youth and Government has provided students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills and experience democracy.

This year, the following students held positions at the convention:
  • Katie Kostecki ’20 served as Secretary of State.
  • Kara Greger ‘20 served as the Floor Leader.
  • Abby Hunt ’20 served as the Reading Clerk.
  • Addie Engelmeyer ’22 served as Secretary.
  • Natalie Mispagel ’20 served as a fill-in Floor Leader.
  • Annmarie Howell ’20, Meghan Kemp ’20, Ellie Boveri ‘20 and Megen Pesek ’21 served as Judges.
In the Legislative Program, nine students’ bills made it to the House/Senate Floor. The bill that was presented by Olivia Stapf ’20 and Kara Greger ’20 was passed by the House and the Senate and signed into a YAG law. Nicole Bergen ‘21 was awarded “Outstanding Statesperson” and Lily Bayer ‘21 and Megan Wilcutt ‘21 were awarded “Outstanding Bill.”

In the Judicial Program, Angels won 10 of their 12 cases. Ainsley Hurford ‘20 and Sophie Maniscalco ’21 were semi-finalists in the trial competition.

Congratulations to the students for their successes at this important convention. A special thank you to Mrs. Ally Landherr and Mr. Brandon Westlake for all their hard work in moderating and planning SJA Youth and Government!
