Day in the Clinical Laboratory
By Dr. Rose Davidson, STEM Coordinator
Four SJA students, Alaina Novotny ‘20, Maggie Keusenkothen ’20, Olivia Linsman ‘21, and Emma Mueller ’20, were selected by St. Louis University to attend “A Day in the Clinical Laboratory” on March 30th.
This event was sponsored by Saint Louis University’s Clinical Health Sciences Department and SLU’s Student Chapter of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). The students worked through a realistic case study on an admitted patient, carrying out lab activities in Urinalysis, Cytology, Microbiology, Blood testing, and analysis of molecular substance found in the body to form a diagnosis for this patient of heroin addiction. Students also were provided with insights into the Investigative & Medical Science and the Medical Laboratory programs offered by SLU.
Emma Mueller ’20, reflects, “I enjoyed the hands on opportunities as well as learning about the programs SLU has to offer for students interested in working in medical laboratory science or investigative medical science or those interested in attending medical school.”
