Lauren Kimes ’18
The Alumnae Association recently caught up with Lauren Kimes ’18! She is studying Civil Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. Read below to see how SJA prepared her for college and the lasting impact of the St. Joe community.
“My four years of high school were so important in allowing me to determine what I value most in my life, and I could not imagine spending them anywhere besides St. Joe! I’m beyond grateful to have learned from such a talented faculty and staff, who continuously went out of their way to recognize my strengths and passions and teach me how to apply what I was learning to the world around me.
I am currently majoring in Civil Engineering at Notre Dame, and I am thankful for the foundation of my STEM classes at St. Joe, especially AP Physics, AP Calculus BC, and Engineering and Design Applications. The courses I chose were challenging, but I would not be as prepared as I am today without the way that SJA both encouraged me to push myself further and offered me the support I needed along the way.
Notre Dame has a mission to educate both the mind and the soul, and I feel very blessed to have already experienced this balanced approach to education during high school. Beyond academics, St. Joe taught me what it means to be a part of a community and introduced me to my best friends, who continue to inspire me even now that we live hundreds of miles apart. Interacting with my friends and teachers allowed me to see how easy it is to recognize God at work in my life, and I am so appreciative of everything that Campus Ministry did to help me realize how important this is to me. The examples of faith at SJA have greatly impacted my outlook on the community around me, the ways I have become involved here on campus, and the types of people I choose to surround myself with.
Although leaving a community that has made such a strong impact on my life has not been easy, it brings me so much joy to watch my younger sisters and all the SJA Angels continue to experience the glimpses of God that mean so much to me."
