The Le Puy Society is a recognition society that acknowledges parents, alumnae, parents of alumnae, grandparents, and friends of St. Joseph's Academy who have expressed their commitment to our school by naming St. Joe as a beneficiary of a planned gift or bequest. Planned gifts include designating St. Joseph's Academy in your will, forming a charitable trust, or purchasing a gift annuity. These gifts can provide great tax savings for you and help ensure that future generations will benefit from the St. Joe educational experience.

A Tax-Saving Way to Help SJA
There is a simple way to support the young women of the Academy. If you are 70½ years old or older and have an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you can take advantage of tax benefits. You can give up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as St. Joseph’s Academy (EIN 43-1484983) without paying income taxes on the money. An added benefit is that the gift counts towards your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. This law no longer has an expiration date so you may make annual gifts to SJA from your IRA this year and well into the future.
You Qualify if…
- You are 70½ or older at the time of your gift.
- Your IRA gifts total $100,000 or less in 2019.
- You transfer the funds directly from your IRA to St. Joseph’s Academy. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you still benefit even if you do not itemize your tax deductions.
- Your transfer is an outright charitable contribution and counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). (This excludes gifts made to charitable trusts, to create charitable annuities, or any other transaction in which the donor receives a benefit in return for the donation.)
