SJA Celebrates CSJ Heritage Week 2018

Monday, March 19th – Friday, March 23rd

Finding Fontbonne
The possibility of St. Joseph's Academy originated in Lyons, France, when Mother St. John Fontbonne, the Superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph, responded to an appeal in the mid-1830s from Bishop Joseph Rosati of St. Louis to send teachers to the mission territories of Carondelet and Cahokia. In particular, he requested sisters to teach deaf children.

Immediately upon arrival, the sisters opened a convent school, followed by St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf in 1837 and St. Joseph’s Academy in 1840….we are bringing Mother St. John Fontbonne back to SJA in a way that we know that you all love. Each day, our “Flat Fontbonne” will be hidden around the school and clues to her whereabouts will be released via email and Campus Ministry’s Instagram account. The first to return her to her home in Campus Ministry will receive a prize and the glory of being 1 of 5 Angels to find her during Heritage Week!

CSJ of the Day
Each day Campus Ministry will feature a Sister of St. Joseph on our Instagram account. Be sure to follow us at @SJACampusMinistry to learn more about our incredible CSJs!

Daily Maxim
Following the morning prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, we will read a Maxim of the day. The Maxims of Perfection were written by Jean-Pierre Médaille, SJ, a Jesuit priest and spiritual director who founded the Sisters of St. Joseph in Le Puy, France, in 1650. The maxims, 100 practical and inspirational statements, were composed by Fr. Medaille to help the sisters, who for the most part did not read, and all persons, grow in virtue. He wanted all to develop the habits of heart and mind that were "in Christ Jesus." The Maxims are still used today, while the sayings have been translated using present-day language for a better understanding. We hope that these Maxims help inspire you in some way each day!

Daily Examen
SJA pauses each afternoon to reflect on the day; see where God was present and grow from that reflection. The examens this week were written by members of the Campus Ministry Team and inspired by the spirituality of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
CSJ Connections
Be sure to stop by the commons throughout the week and see just how connected we are to people around the world all because of the amazing Sisters of St. Joseph!

Angels in Prayer with Sr. Sarah Heger, CSJ
Angels in Prayer meets every Wednesday at 7:25 a.m. in Campus Ministry. Each Wednesday is different and focuses on a topic of the speaker's choosing. Some meetings, songs or videos are played with a reflection, some involve group activities, some are made up of really great discussions and all meetings always end in prayer. The ultimate goal of this group is that each Angel will begin to better understand how they best communicate with God. Our meeting this week will be led by Sarah Heger, Sister of St. Joseph and Principal at Marian Middle School. All are welcome!
