    Open the Box Session

    Location: Sr. Mary de Paul Room
    Every student and at least one parent must attend an “Open-the-Box” session to receive the student’s laptop and computer agreements. Each session typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

    Students who are enrolled in summer courses at SJA should register for a June session in order to receive their laptops in time for class.

    “Open-the-Box Sessions” take place in the Sr. Mary de Paul Room. Due to construction, parking in front of the gym will be unavailable this summer. Please park in the back of school and enter the Shanahan Commons via the Athletic Office doors.

    To register for a session, please click here. When registering, please provide your daughter’s name, her nickname (if she wishes to go by that name), and the session you both wish to attend.  If you are providing this information by phone, please include the spelling of your names as well.

    SJA will offer Reading Plus courses over the summer. In this course, students will earn an extra .5 elective credit. This program will help students improve their reading speed which will help with homework and taking the ACT test. As a bonus, summer reading assignments can be completed in time for the first day of class, all while having fun and making new friends!

    5th-8th Grade

    This camp will explore various methods of acrylic painting, under the guidance of a self-taught local artist. We will create abstract marbling effects using poured fluid acrylic paints applied to small canvases and/or wooden structures. We will also recreate a mystical landscape by following along to a Bob Ross instructional video. Participants will discover the joy of painting by embracing the beauty of mistakes, happy accidents, and unintended results. No prior painting or art experience is necessary!

    Students will learn the basics of block coding and participate in activities such as navigating the Sphero SPRK ball through a maze, looping and adding sound and speech as they code a timed game, and creating a timed game. Participants will work all week designing and drawing a small self-portrait, under the guidance of a self-taught local artist. We will listen to a variety of music and discuss the differences between perception and reality when it comes to self-image. Participants will learn how not to be afraid of making mistakes when creating art. No prior drawing or art experience is necessary!

Participants will learn how not to be afraid of making mistakes when creating art. No prior drawing or art experience is necessary!
