Our Shadowing Program

In order to experience the Angel spirit first-hand, St. Joseph's Academy invites eighth grade students to visit our school for an entire day in the fall. Students looking for high school entry for the 2020-2021 school year should contact the Admissions Office to schedule their shadow visit.

We encourage seventh grade students to shadow in the spring.

For more information on shadowing, or to schedule a shadow date, please contact Mrs. Cori Castellano Sallaberry '96, Director of Admissions, by phone at (314) 394-4319, or by email at csallaberry@sja1840.org.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SHADOWING

List of 12 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: Which grade levels are able to shadow?

Eighth graders are invited to participate in our fall shadowing program. Students looking for high school entry for the 2020-2021 school year should contact the Admissions Office to schedule their shadow visit.

Seventh graders may shadow in the spring.

If you currently attend high school and are considering a transfer, please contact Mrs. Cori Castellano Sallaberry '96, Director of Admissions, by phone at (314) 394-4319, or by email at csallaberry@sja1840.org.
  • Q: What are the benefits of shadowing for my daughter?

The shadowing program is a unique opportunity for prospective students to experience a typical school day as a St. Joe Angel. The visiting student will attend classes with her Student Ambassador, and enjoy lunch on us in the cafeteria.
  • Q: Is shadowing a half-day or a full day?

8th grade shadow visits are full day, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. 7th grade shadow visits are half day, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
  • Q: Is there a dress code for students who visit?

Visitors may wear their school uniforms, or any school-appropriate clothing (for example, leggings, tennis shoes, etc.). All shadows will receive a lanyard name tag when they arrive, which will identify them as visitors during the school day.
  • Q: How do I schedule a shadow visit?

Shadow registration is online and typically opens in late July for the fall and in early January for the spring.

If you have questions, or would like to schedule a shadow visit, please contact Mrs. Cori Castellano Sallaberry '96, Director of Admissions, by phone at (314) 394-4319, or by email at csallaberry@sja1840.org.
  • Q: How far in advance do I need to call to schedule a shadow visit?

We recommend that you schedule your visit at least a week in advance. Many days (especially Fridays) do fill up quickly, so the sooner a visit can be scheduled, the better.
  • Q: Will my daughter eat lunch while visiting St. Joe?

Lunch will be provided in the cafeteria, but your daughter is also more than welcome to bring a bag lunch if that is her preference. We do have options available for students who have food allergies.
  • Q: What if I need to reschedule my daughter’s shadow visit?

To reschedule your daughter’s shadow visit, please contact Mrs. Cori Castellano Sallaberry '96, Associate Director of Admissions, by email at csallaberry@sja1840.org or by phone at (314) 394-4319.
  • Q: Does a prospective student shadow a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior?

An eighth grade visitor will be paired with a sophomore Student Ambassador. A seventh grade visitor may be paired with a freshman or sophomore Student Ambassador. If your visiting student knows someone who is a sophomore, junior, or senior, and would prefer to shadow her, you may make that request when you register online.
  • Q: Where is drop off and pick up for my daughter for her visit?

When you pull onto the St. Joe campus, follow the signs for shadow visitor parking and park in the lot in front of the gym. Proceed into the Student Commons to sign in and meet your Student Ambassador.
  • Q: What if there is an emergency while my daughter is visiting St. Joe?

When you register your daughter for a shadow visit, you will include an emergency contact name and phone number where someone can be reached during the time of her visit.
  • Q: Do I need to accompany my daughter into the school building?

A parent or other designated adult should accompany your daughter into St. Joe when dropping off and picking up. If your daughter rides to school with a current SJA student, she should accompany your daughter to the meeting area in the Student Commons to sign her in and out.
