The Application Process for 8th Grade Applicants

The St. Joseph's Academy Admissions Council recognizes that students are not defined by one area alone. The Council uses a holistic approach for admissions, considering the student's standardized test scores and her grades from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. All students interested in applying to St. Joseph’s Academy should fill out our online application, complete and submit the student essay and schedule a family interview.

Important Dates to Remember:
October 15 - November 16, 2018: Students who attend Archdiocesan schools or participate in Catholic   
Parish School of Religion (PSR) should complete the Archdiocesan Catholic High School online application. Online applications will be accepted beginning October 15 through November 16, 2018.

Public school applicants should complete the St. Joseph’s Academy application to begin the process.

November 2018: 
Archdiocesan schools will forward grade school transcripts to the student’s first choice high school. Public school applicants should print off a copy of the Transcript Release Form from the student’s middle school to be sent directly to St. Joseph’s Academy.
 
December 2018 - January 2019: Family interviews will be conducted at SJA.
 
February 1, 2019: Decision letters are mailed and electronic notifications are sent to the email address on the student’s St. Joseph’s Academy application.
 
February 2, 2019: Welcome to St. Joe Day. We will welcome all newly accepted students for the Class of 2023 for a party from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the student commons area.
 
March 4, 2019: Incoming Freshman (Class of 2023) Welcome Night at 6:30 p.m.

  • Complete the student essay and return to SJA by January 3, 2019. 
  • Family interview dates and times - please check back for registration information.

    6th Grade Angel for a Day

    6th Graders are invited to spend the morning at the Academy and experience life as a St. Joe Angel! Join us for SJA fun, including attending special class sessions and touring our beautiful campus. We will end with lunch and activities in our Outdoor Theater!

    Incoming Freshman: Pizza & a Show

    Optional, but strongly encouraged!

    All members of the incoming class are invited to be our guests for a pizza buffet dinner in the SJA Café from 6-6:45 p.m. Parents of the Class of 2023 also are invited to a Meet ‘n Greet and light dinner from 6-6:45 p.m. in the Sr. Mary de Paul Room.
     
    Following dinner, all are invited to be our guests for our Spring Musical Production from 7-9:00 p.m. Tickets will be provided that night for the performance. You will need to register for this event on our website’s homepage by April 26th.

    Summer at SJA: Acrylic Painting

    5th-8th Grade

    This camp will explore various methods of acrylic painting, under the guidance of a self-taught local artist. We will create abstract marbling effects using poured fluid acrylic paints applied to small canvases and/or wooden structures. We will also recreate a mystical landscape by following along to a Bob Ross instructional video. Participants will discover the joy of painting by embracing the beauty of mistakes, happy accidents, and unintended results. No prior painting or art experience is necessary!

    Summer at SJA: Drama

    5th-8th Grade

    A week full of group drama activities will introduce the art of acting through improvisation games, character development exercises, stage voice work and more. Students will get to experience life on the SJA stage at this exciting camp!

    Summer at SJA: Coding with the Sphero SPRK Ball

    5th-8th Grade

    Students will learn the basics of block coding and participate in activities such as navigating the Sphero SPRK ball through a maze, looping and adding sound and speech as they code a timed game, and creating a timed game. This camp will require students to come with a charged smartphone or an iPad running iOS 10 or above. The settings on the phone must allow the students to download the Sphero app.

    Summer at SJA: Psychology for You!

    5th-8th Grade

    This camp will dive into the various areas that psychology plays in the life of a middle school student, including interpersonal relationships, forensics, study habits/memory, social challenges, etc. We will use real-life activities, projects and games to help bring the content to life!

    Summer at SJA: Self-Portrait Drawing

    5th-8th Grade

    The goal of this camp will be to produce a self-portrait on paper using graphite pencils. Participants will work all week designing and drawing a small self-portrait, under the guidance of a self-taught local artist. We will listen to a variety of music and discuss the differences between perception and reality when it comes to self-image. Participants will learn how not to be afraid of making mistakes when creating art. No prior drawing or art experience is necessary!

    Summer at SJA: Summer Band

    5th-6th Grade

    St. Joseph’s Academy Summer Band Camp is open to students with one or more years of experience with a band instrument. We will offer both individual and full ensemble instruction in a fun environment to help band students improve their playing skills. Our music and instruction will focus on both technical skill improvement and full ensemble performance. Come join in the fun!
