The Application Process for 8th Grade Applicants

The St. Joseph's Academy Admissions Council recognizes that students are not defined by one area alone. The Council uses a holistic approach for admissions, considering the student's standardized test scores and her grades from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. All students interested in applying to St. Joseph’s Academy should fill out our online application, complete and submit the student essay and schedule a family interview.

Important Dates to Remember:
October 15 - November 16, 2018: Students who attend Archdiocesan schools or participate in Catholic   
Parish School of Religion (PSR) should complete the Archdiocesan Catholic High School online application. Online applications will be accepted beginning October 15 through November 16, 2018.

Public school applicants should complete the St. Joseph’s Academy application to begin the process.

November 2018: 
Archdiocesan schools will forward grade school transcripts to the student’s first choice high school. Public school applicants should print off a copy of the Transcript Release Form from the student’s middle school to be sent directly to St. Joseph’s Academy.
December 2018 - January 2019: Family interviews will be conducted at SJA.
February 1, 2019: Decision letters are mailed and electronic notifications are sent to the email address on the student’s St. Joseph’s Academy application.
February 2, 2019: Welcome to St. Joe Day. We will welcome all newly accepted students for the Class of 2023 for a party from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the student commons area.
March 4, 2019: Incoming Freshman (Class of 2023) Welcome Night at 6:30 p.m.

  • Online SJA application: Complete SJA application, and submit. 
  • Complete the student essay and return to SJA by January 3, 2019. 
  • Family interview dates and times - please check back for registration information.

    Incoming Freshmen: Placement Test (Math)

    (MANDATORY for ALL incoming freshmen)    
    9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

    All incoming freshmen must take the math placement test. Bring at least two #2 pencils. No calculators are allowed in the testing room.
    Students should enter and exit the school through the Main Entrance, located by the flag and the statue of St. Joseph.

    Incoming Freshmen: Placement Test (World Language)

    10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

    The World Language placement test is available for any student who would like to be considered for Level II of a language or Honors Spanish I. More information will be given at the Welcome Night on March 4, or you may contact Mrs. Jenny Riggins, World Language Department Chair, at jriggins@sja1840.org.

    Incoming Freshmen: Placement Test (Dance)

    12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
    (optional and only necessary if a student wants to sign up for Dance II or Dance III advanced classes. Students enrolling in Dance I do not need to audition.)

    Make-Up Day for Math and World Language Placement Testing

    If your daughter cannot take the placement tests as scheduled on Saturday, March 30, we will provide one make-up placement test opportunity on Tuesday, April 2nd.
