This summer, St. Joseph’s Academy is excited to offer the "Summer at SJA" on-campus enrichment program for 5th-8th grade girls.
 
Safety regulations set forth by St. Louis County will be followed, including completing a daily health screening form, mask wearing, social distancing and frequent hand washing.

  • STEM Summer Camp

    Session 1: 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.
    Session 2: 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

    5th-8th Grade

    Welcome to a fun-filled week of STEM! This week, we will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities, labs and engagement. Each day of the week, we will focus on a different Science subject (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Forensics and Environmental Science). Come experience what being a future Angel scientist is all about!

  • Sphero Robotics Intro Course

    Time: 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.

    5th-8th Grade

    Using the Sphero Sprk+, we will explore basic programming concepts and participate in a variety of activities from bowling to darts to racing and more! Each day, we will try something new with our Sphero Sprk+ and learn how certain code elements allow us to perform these tasks. A tablet or laptop is required. No coding experience is necessary!

  • Living Faith Through Inclusivity and Activism

    Time: 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.

    5th-8th Grade

    Do you want our community and world to experience an explosion of love? Are you willing to be vulnerable and courageous as you learn about bias, stereotypes, prejudice, and how to call your friends and family in instead of calling them out? Can you name your superpower and see how you can use it to be an activist as you create an inclusive and safe community? Each day, students will look at creating inclusive communities through the lens of scripture, the CSJ charism, and various activities that will be both reflective and creative. These discussions and activities will take place in a supportive and safe environment.

  • Arts & Crafts

    Time: 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.

    5th-8th Grade

    Spend the morning working on arts and crafts! A variety of hands-on crafting techniques and supplies will be used, including paint, beads, tissue paper, string and tie-dye. The focus will be on FUN and CREATIVITY!

  • Improv

    Time: 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

    5th-8th Grade

    Have you ever watched Whose Line Is It Anyway or secretly wanted to show the world your comedy skills? Or, are you trying to break out of your shell and build your confidence? Either way, this is the camp for you! During this fun-filled week, we will participate in lots of socially distanced improv activities and games like “Freeze” and “Questions Only” that are sure to build your confidence and fine-tune your comedy skills. All you have to do is bring your imagination!

  • Origami

    Time: 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

    5th-8th Grade

    This craft camp will explore the Japanese art of paper folding. We will learn how to make basic origami folds on a flat piece of origami paper, and how to combine those into a three-dimensional paper sculpture. Participants will use a variety of folding techniques to create a wide range of paper figures, including flowers, animals, boxes, and geometric shapes. No prior craft or art experience is necessary!

  • Exploring Drawing

    5th-8th Grade

    This camp is designed to explore and build drawing skills. The idea is for individuals to learn to view the world differently allowing drawing skills to immediately develop and improve. You will be amazed how simple tricks and pointers can enhance your love of drawing. Any level of artist is welcome!

  • Children of the Holocaust

    Time: 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

    5th-8th Grade

    Are you interested in the Holocaust? Maybe you have read and enjoyed The Diary of Anne Frank, or Number the Stars or The Book Thief? Then, you should journey with me as we explore children’s experiences during the Holocaust through art, diaries, poetry, photos, and the life story of a child survivor. You will be asked to use your writing, reading, and speaking skills in unison to write poetry, create a photo collage, artistically embellish butterfly symbols, construct an art exhibition, as well as write a letter & virtually “speak” to a child Holocaust survivor. Materials needed: markers, glue stick, scissors, pen or pencil, and 1 subject notebook.
