The clicking of keys and chattering of voices fill the modern, but still comfy main lounge of the College Advising and Resource Center. One student diligently works on revising an honors college essay, another student toggles between their college research spreadsheet and college websites, while still others flow into one of two conference rooms chatting excitedly about an upcoming college rep visit. Further down the long hallway, in a smaller study area, sits a group of Angels collaborating on a science project, while Ms. Holladay and Ms. McKenzie each facilitate advising appointments in their individual offices.
Opened in the fall of 2018, the advising center provides ample space for student workstations, housing outlets and charging ports in various locations, as large windows boast a gorgeous view of the CSJ Walk of Peace and Prayer Garden and expansive lawn. The two 65-inch screens with built-in computers allow for admissions counselors to showcase their college campuses while presenting information sessions to students and families, alike. Each space fulfills multiple purposes, including group meetings and conferences, in addition to casual Q&A between students and advisors. WiFi access is available throughout, as well as a small kitchenette, allowing for extended hospitality to university reps and St. Joe guests.
Beloved by students, faculty, and guests of St. Joe, but particularly seniors in the throes of college application season, The College Advising and Resource Center has surpassed expectations regarding its welcoming atmosphere and practicality.
