We are thrilled and privileged to celebrate our 175th anniversary with a beautiful book that will tell, for the first time, the Academy’s rich history as one of the oldest schools in St. Louis. An equal mix of text and imagery, this collector’s quality book, available beginning in the fall of 2015, chronicles the Academy story from our early days in a log cabin at Carondelet to thirty years on the Fontbonne campus in Clayton to our present home in Frontenac.
From the special to the everyday; places, people, and events to timelines and milestones – the story is unique to St. Joseph’s Academy and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. At the same time, it provides a window on the times in which the students lived and their response to these times, traces the growth of the St. Louis community and nation, and reflects developments in culture and education.
Come take a walk with us down memory lane that is as old as the early days of St. Louis (twenty years after it became a city) to as new as yesterday. Read about how the sisters and their charges survived fire, flood, and pestilence in the early days. Learn the answers to such questions as what tuition was in 1851, when the first yearbook was published, on the grounds of what historic event the Fontbonne campus is built, how old the school song is, and when the number of lay teachers first surpassed the number of sisters.
Alumnae will appreciate the cherished memories this book elicits and undoubtedly read much that is new to them. Current students and families will learn what makes SJA such a distinct and rich educational institution. Don’t miss the opportunity to own this special book.
