St. Joseph's Academy is called forth by our founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, to "serve the Dear Neighbor without distinction."
As part of the school mission, we prepare our young women to make a profound impact in the world, providing them with the opportunity to grow in awareness of and respect for the dear neighbor, who may be of another culture, ethnicity, race, age, socioeconomic circumstance, faith, gender, or sexual identity.
A Commitment to Diversity The Academy’s commitment to diversity invites the school community to approach all people with appreciation, curiosity, and interest in the hope of developing a deeper awareness of our rich complexity, while at the same time seeing our connectedness. Students are routinely challenged to see beyond themselves in the classes they take, in their spiritual lives, and through community service and club participation.
Diversity Awareness Committee Founded in 2011, the Diversity Awareness Committee was created with the express purpose of enhancing and furthering these efforts. Experiences and conversations offered by this student-led organization invite members of the St. Joe community to embrace the dignity of all people, as well as to bring about equitable structures both within the Academy and in the greater community. The St. Joe Diversity Awareness Committee gathers with similar groups from other area high schools to expand this dialogue and encounter these experiences at a deeper level.
Through a variety of educational and experiential opportunities, SJA aspires to ‘develop values-driven women leaders’ who are aware of and exceptionally prepared to respond to issues of unjust economic, political, social, and religious systems in their own community and in the larger diverse world.
St. Joe develops values-driven women leaders.
